H. William "Bill" Shockley
July 16, 1930 - March 01, 2009
H. William Shockley passed away at home on March 1, 2009 under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Bill was born in Charlottesville, VA on July 16, 1930 to the late Henry Wood Shockley and Sybil Copps Shockley and was the stepson of the late Lillie Mae Shockley. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Wood Shockley and Richard Lee Shockley.
After attending Pierre S. DuPont High School in Wilmington, DE, he graduated from the University of Delaware where he played varsity football and baseball. He joined the DuPont Company in 1955 and worked there for 37 years except for serving in the U.S. Navy for 3 years. He retired from DuPont in 1992 to the Landings in Savannah, GA where he was an active member of the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church and did volunteer work for several organizations at the Landings.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kay Trusell Shockley; a son Scott Shockley and wife Kelly of Columbia, SC; two daughters Suzanne Shockley of Richmond, VA, Lisa Shockley and husband Woodrow Reeves of Kingsport, TN; four grandchildren Sean Reeves, Kyle Reeves, Perri Shockley and Braden Shockley; sister Sybil Curtin; special brother-in-law E. Allan Britton and nieces and nephews. Special thanks go to Bill's caregivers Priscila Collins, Rosa Forbes and Maxine Scott.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday March 6 at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Giddens officiating.
